Safeguarding Little Smiles With Children’s Dentistry

We want to help kids of all ages maintain good oral health and beautiful smiles, and that means seeing us for treatment every six months. From checkups and cleanings to dental sealants, we can help safeguard their smiles! Your Park Dental Arts in San Diego, CA, want to help your kids protect their smiles, and that starts with a checkup visit.

Kids Exams and Cleanings

Starting at around age two, we want to see your kids for a checkup visit every six months. Just like you, kids benefit from a regular exam, as we can monitor the smile over time and catch problems in the earliest stages, treating them before they cause discomfort and tooth loss. Our team can also discuss better oral health habits at home, and help your kids obtain a better understanding of their oral health and the importance of routine care at home in and in the office.

We also take time to clean the teeth, a process that enables us to remove all plaque and tartar from the teeth, limiting the risk of issues like cavities and gingivitis, and also fighting bad breath and teeth stains. We can also discuss proper brushing and flossing at home in between visits to limit the severity of plaque buildup.

Fluoride and Dental Sealants

Our team is also proud to offer preventive treatments to lower the risks of cavities in smiles of all ages. As part of their six-month checkup visit, we can apply fluoride directly to the teeth to the outer enamel and lower the risk of issues like tooth decay. The application takes seconds and kids just need to avoid food and drink for about a half hour. Our team can also apply dental sealants to the teeth, which coat the rear teeth and prevent food and drink particles from being stuck between them, lowering the risk of cavities in the more vulnerable parts of their smiles. These sealants can stay in place for up to ten years in some cases, wearing away gradually with time!

Custom Mouthguards

Our team can also create custom mouthguards for children to wear when they play sports and martial arts, as these fit snugly over the teeth and provide a greater level of protection when compared to boil-and-bite options from sporting goods stores. The mouthguard helps limit the risk of cracked, chipped, or knocked out teeth, so they can enjoy strong and healthy smiles!
